1959-60 Strat Fan Hockey Set

Source: back of schedule sheet that Strat Fan included with the card set. There has been an error made on the top of the 1959-60 hockey set which should be corrected. The error concerns the scoring chances listed after the skating rating, on the top left side of the card. Please make the following changes: Any player who did not score a short-handed goal (see the bottom of the player's card) should have a blank reading following his skating rating. Also, the following players should have the scoring chances (the number in parentheses following their skating ratings) changed as listed: Jerry Toppazzini (BOS) from 1-2 to 1. Moose Vasko (CHI) from 1-2 to 1. Dollard St. Laurent (CHI) from 1-2 to 1. Norm Ullman (DET) from 1-2 to 1. Bernie Geoffrion (MON) from 1-2 to 1. Jim Bartlett (NYR) from 1-2 to 1. George Armstrong (TOR) from 1-3 to 1. Red Kelly (TOR) from 1-2 to 1. We regret the error and assure you it will not be repeated in the future. [So ... if you look at the cards, every single player has a possible short-handed breakaway chance, which is obviously wrong. The following players need to have their short-handed breakaway chances changed to ZERO: BOSTON: Bob Armstrong, Leo Boivin, Johnny Bucyk, Lorne Davis, Autry Erickson, Fern Flaman, Guy Gendron, Bronco Horvath, Leo Labine, Larry Leach, Don McKenney, Dick Meissner, Nick Mickoski, Doug Mohns, Dallas Smith, Vic Stasiuk, Don Ward CHICAGO: Al Arbour, Murray Balfour, Jack Evans, Bill Hay, Bobby Hull, Ted Lindsay, Ed Litzenberger, Phil Maloney, Stan Mikita, Ron Murphy, Pierre Pilote, Tod Sloan, Ken Wharram DETROIT: Gary Aldcorn, Barry Cullen, Val Fonteyne, Warren Godfrey, Pete Goegan, Lloyd Hadden, Len Haley, Forbes Kennedy, Len Lunde, Lou Marcon, Jack McIntyre, John McKenzie, Billy McNeil, Gerry Melnyk, Jim Morrison, Murray Oliver, Marcel Pronovost, Marc Reaume, Brian Smith MONTREAL: Ralph Backstrom, Jean Beliveau, Marcel Bonin, Phil Goyette, Doug Harvey, Billy Hicke, Tom Johnson, Al Langlois, Ab McDonald, Dickie Moore, Andre Pronovost, Henri Richard, Maurice Richard, Jean Guy Talbot, J.C. 1962-63 Strat Fan Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan December 1996, page 2, "Corrections: 1962-63 Hockey". The new set of STRAT FAN hockey cards has several minor errors in the position section of their cards: CHICAGO: Both Eric Nesterenko and Len Lunde should be listed as Left Wing, not Left Defense. DEROIT: Parker MacDonald SHOULD NOT have Point**. Alex Delvecchio SHOULD have Point**. NEW YORK: Andy Bathgate should have Point**. Don McKenny should have Point*. Source: Strat Fan Hockey Annual 1997, page 11, "Replay Section: Adding Realism". [Note: most of the article involves replay information for the 1996-97 season, plus it mentions the issue contains card images of 60 "extra-extra" players. The very end has the following paragraph about two of the 'extra-extra" players.] NOTE: Two of the players are those inadvertently omitted from STRAT FAN's 1962-63 NHL card set released last year: Detroit goalie Dennis Riggin and Toronto LW John MacMillan. We include them here at the request of many gamers.

1966-67 Strat Fan Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan Hockey Annual 1994, page 3, "'66-67 Corrections". There are five errors in the 1966-67 hockey cards: -- Montreal centers Jean Beliveau (+2), Henri Richard (+1) and Ralph Backstrom (+1) should be plus-rated on faceoffs, not 0. -- Montreal's Bobby Rousseau should be rated at Point as **. -- It should be Boston goalie Eddie Johnston, not Johnstone.

1977-78 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source : Strat-O-Matic Review, Vol. VIII-9, December, 1978, p.3,
"Only One Change Needed on Hockey Cards"

Only one change is necessary regarding the new S-O-M Hockey cards,
according to the game company. Brian Spencer, left wing for the
Pittsburgh Penguins, should have a reading of "Goal" on an Inside
Shot with a roll of "2", rather than "Goal 1-17". That, however,
is the only change needed on the new cards.

1978-79 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source : Strat-O-Matic Review, Vol. 9-10, December, 1979, p.3, "Only Two Hockey Card Changes" First report from the game company is that only two minor changes are needed on the new set of Strat-O-Matic Hockey cards: * On Paul Baxter's card, a defenseman for the Quebec Nordiques, change his faceoff rating from a "1" to a "0". * And, regarding Jerry O'Flahery, an additional player for the Atlanta Flames, on outside shot, dice reading No. 2, the square should say "Goalie Rating", rather than just simply "Goalie". Nothing major, as you can tell. But virtually no news is always good news -- at least when it comes to reporting card corrections.

1984-85 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source : Strat-O-Matic Review, Vol. 16, June, 1986, p.15, "Questions & Answers" QUESTION: Dave Richter, defenseman for the Minnesota North Stars, is rated a 2. His defense column is that of a 1-rated player. Which is right ? ANSWER: S-O-M says to change number at top from a 2 to a 1 on Richter's card.

1988-89 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan June 1997, page 4, letter to "The Talk Show". [A letter asked why Scott Young (76 games, 19 goals, 40 assists) was not carded in the 1988-89 set. Strat Fan replied that "SOM issued a replacement card for Young." Replacement cards were sent to those who asked while supplies lasted.] S-O-M reports that the mistake on Christian's card was simply a typing snafu and that the card is set up to generate 16 power-play goals. In the cases of Allison and Lehmann, the game company says the defense rating at the top of the card ("3" for Allison) is correct. "The defensive rating in the column should be reflected in the rating at the top," says S-O-M. Likewise, Lehmann should have a column rating of "2" to match the rating at the top of his card. S-O-M also points out an error on Dave Hannan's card for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Under the defense column, the blank spot on Hannan's card should have "Takes away puck." The next number should then have "8-11 Penalty."

1989-90 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source : Strat-O-Matic Review, Vol. 20, October, 1990, p.15, "Hockey cards are 'clean'" There's only one minor correction needed for Strat-O-Matic's new hockey card set. Actually, it's not even a card correction, as much as a correction on the statistics listed at the bottom of the card. The player who needs the minor alteration is Mark Fitzpatrick, goalie for the New York Islanders. Fitzpatrick's goals against and average are the same, 3.39. He gave up 150 goals, according to S-O-M. So please make the change. "That's the only correction needed that we are aware of," says Steve Barkan of the game company. A clean set of cards, in other words. Source : Strat-O-Matic Review, Vol. 20, November, 1990, p.2, "Card corrections" There is only one change needed on the new hockey cards. Actually it's not a change on the S-O-M portion of the card, rather with the stats at the bottom of Yvon Corriveau's card. Rather than list Corriveau's combined stats with two teams, Washington and Hartford, only Corriveau's stats with Washington were listed at the bottom of his card. His stats should read: GP - 63, G -13, A-7, PPG-1 and PIM 72. John Barkoviak of Bloomington, IL, was the first sharp-eyed hockey gamer to bring it to our attention. "The card is correct," says S-O-M's Steve Barkan. "The card was based on the combined stats, so there's no change necessary." [NOTE - Corriveau is carded with Hartford.]

1990-91 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan October 1991, page 6, "Original and Corrected Cards in This 4-Sport Issue". Also in this month's lineup are 11 corrected cards: -- 1990-91 season hockey cards: David Shaw, Dave Lowry and Mike Krushelnyski. [The other eight of the 11 cards were for other sports. The changes on the cards are only to the shooting columns and are as follows: -- for DAVID SHAW: ---- change Reb/Bkwy 11 from Goalie rating+ to Goalie rating -- for DAVE LOWRY: ---- change Outside Shot 3 from X-DLW to Goalie rating ---- change Inside Shot 3 from X-DLW to Goalie rating ---- change Inside Shot 4 from X-DLD to Goalie rating ---- change Reb/Bkwy 2 from X-DRD to Goalie rating ---- change Reb/Bkwy 4 from X-DLW to Goalie rating ---- change Reb/Bkwy 5 from X-DLD to Goalie rating -- for MIKE KRUSHELNYSKI: ---- change Outside Shot 3 from X-DRW to Goalie rating ---- change Inside Shot 5 from X-DRD to Goalie rating ---- change Inside Shot 12 from X-DRW to Goalie rating ---- change Reb/Bkwy 4 from X-DLW to Goalie rating ---- change Reb/Bkwy 5 from X-DC to Goalie rating ---- change Reb/Bkwy 12 from X-DRD to Goalie rating.] Source: Strat Fan October 1991, page 7, "Roster Errors". In addition to the three corrected cards in this issue, these are the corrections to the hockey rosters: -- Delete: Ryan Walter (MON), Tom Tilley (STL), Bob Joyce (WAS), Don Barber (WIN). -- Add: Shawn Chambers (MIN), Sylvain Turgeon (MON).

1992-93 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan January 1994, page 4, "Extras: Neely, Lawton Cards". When readers pointed out that we had overlooked Boston's Cam Neely and San Jose's Brian Lawton in our selection of 90 "extra-extra" hockey cards, we thought hard about a remedy. Here are the images, in the same format and size of the other 90 players. [Note: the two card images we included on the same page.]

1993-94 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan Hockey Annual 1994, page 3, "One Typo In 1993-94 Set". SOM reports that the 1993-94 card set is clean except for one spelling. Goalie Ken Wreggett should have one "t", not two.

1997-98 Strat-O-Matic Hockey Set

Source: Strat Fan Hockey Annual 1998, page 24, "Card Corrections". Strat-O-Matic has announced corrections to four player cards in the 1997-98 card set: -- Buffalo goalie Dominik Hasek's PIM should be 13, not 1. His card ratings are correct. -- Los Angeles goalie Frederic Chabot's stats at the bottom of his card should read Games 12, Min 553, GAA 3.15, EN 0, SO 0, Shots 267, GA 29, SV% .891. His card ratings are correct. -- Colorado's Adam Deadmarsh should have an intimidation rating of I 1-8, not I 0. -- New Jersey's Kevin Dean should have an intimidation rating of I 1-3, not I 1-13. SOM's Steve Barkan reports that Boyd Devereaux' intimidation rating of I 1-10, despite just 6 PIM in 38 games, is not wrong. "He was a human hitting machine," said Barkan, who added that he was able to consult new NHL statistics on hits in adjusting some ratings up and down.
